Scratch and Dent Value

As grocery prices continue to rise, the appeal of a reduced-price slightly banged-up can of something or a less-than-flawless bit of produce begins to look pretty good. Who doesn’t love that drastically reduced open box appliance with the scratch on the side that you planned to put against the wall anyway? Don’t we all get a real kick out of finding that diamond in the rough deal?

Everyone loves a bargain, but nowadays, it’s starting to feel urgent.

While we are all acutely aware of the joy (and need) of finding a good deal at the store or online, I think we should apply that concept to what we find in the mirror. Sure, there might be a nick on the paint job or a bubble in the veneer. Hell, the hardware might even be corroded or totally missing in some places. The thing is, it’s still a great deal.

We are still us.

The great thing about embracing our own scratches and dents is that, just like the beautiful meal we can prepare with those less-than-perfect groceries, we can be imperfectly beautiful friends.
